Property Description

Le Ségalat

Authentic Country Retreat in the Heart of Dordogne Valley

Le Ségalat is a 19th century Perigordine farm set around a small courtyard in just over 10 acres of woodland and fields, tranquil but not remote, being only 2.5kms from the village – a 5 min drive or 25 min stroll!

The Setting

Maison Pierre is on one side of the courtyard, and is a spacious, light and airy, yet sympathetic barn conversion, with exposed stone walls and original oak beams.

Your accomodation is set on two floors, with 1 double bedroom, separate bathroom, and large lounge/kitchen/dining room on the ground floor.

Upstairs, via an open tread staircase (treated with non-slip floor varnish) with handrail, you will find another double and a twin bedded room, plus a newly refurbished power-shower room with WC and washbasin. All the bedrooms have fitted wardrobe/drawer units, and dressing tables in the two double bedded rooms.

The upper rooms and downstairs living room overlook the flower filled courtyard, whilst the downstairs bedroom overlooks the patio and garden area.

The house is fully equipped with dining table and 6 chairs, comfy 3 piece suite, wood burning stove, radio/CD/Cassette player, HD-TV/DVD, dishwasher, microwave, 4 burner gas hob, George Foreman rotisserie oven, fridge (266L)/freezer(77L), electric toaster, kettle, coffee maker and electric fan.

Full range of crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking utensils, pots and pans, steam iron and ironing board, hairdryer, and raclette set. You can also use our washing machine, located in an independent area for a nominal charge! There is also a good selection of books, puzzles, board games and playing cards provided.

All rooms are generously proportioned and retain an authentic feel. Between the entrance and living room there are two sets of two shallow steps, again with handrails.

On-site Activities

Outside you have your own secluded patio, lawn (with rotary clothes dryer) and BBQ area with dining table and chairs, shaded by a wisteria and large sun umbrella, against the setting evening sun!

You also have sole use of the 10 x 5 m salt water swimming pool, which, for the safety of your children, is a constant depth of 1 metre, making it ideal for water games like volleyball (inflatable net provided) not to mention swimming and learning to swim!

There are also sufficient sun loungers, tables and parasols, all of which is protected by a 1.5 m wall and gates. Via the pool you have access to a 70 sq. m. indoor games room with table tennis and other children\’s games. We now also have a Wii but you will need to bring your own controls and preferred games.

Other outdoor facilities include, boules, badminton and croquet set, football net, swings, plus access to the grounds and woodland.

The Region

The Dordogne is situated in S.W.France, part of the once British owned Aquitaine. Evidence of the rich history of the region starts with prehistoric caves and Troglodyte dwellings carved into limestone cliffs through to medieval villages, chateaux and Bastide towns.

The unrivalled beauty of the Perigord Noir is second to none, enhanced by the wooded undulating valleys and the characteristic honey coloured sandstone architecture.

The gastronomic reputation of the Perigord is renowned throughout the world which boasts duck, foie gras, truffles and walnuts. Alongside the traditional fare all tastes are covered with restaurants serving a wide range of cuisines.

Saint Pompon

The attractive little medeival village of St Pompon is 2.5kms from Le Ségalat – 5 mins in the car or 25 mins by foot! There you will find all your basic necessities, and includes, bakery which also sells foreign newspapers, butcher, pharmacy,¨Post office/Tourist information, small grocery shop, 1 bar/petrol station, 1 bar/restaurant boasting a Gault et Millau \’ Toque\’ and a Salle des Jeux. Another restaurant has also recently opened.

On a Saturday evening from mid June to early September, the village hosts a Marché Gourmande, where you turn up with your plates etc; chose your meal from a variety of vendors, sit yourself down at the tables and benches provided and eat enjoying the general ambience and music provided!

This year 25-27 May, St.Pompon will be hosting stage 3 of the French Mountain Bike Tour.

N.B. Please be warned that most maps and GPS systems insist on putting a T on the end of Pompon!

Nearby Attractions

St Pompon is very convenietly located to visit a wide variety of attractions from, Canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding, tennis courts, quad biking, activity parks, chateaux, caves, an Aquarium, and 3 nearby golf courses – your choice is endless and very varied!

Flora & Fauna

This area is a haven for bird watching throughout the year, with many rare species either in transit or resident! Red Squirrels, badgers and deer are also a common site here.
