Sleeps 2, 1 bedroom. Price From €273 Per Week
Our lovingly restored stone cottage, dating from the 17th century, is open all year round for you to immerse yourself in traditional rural Brittany.
Downstairs Hibiscus Cottage is one open-plan room, with kitchen corner (bottled gas cooker, fridge, microwave). There is free, WiFi (but no TV or radio).
Upstairs is an airy bedroom with double bed and a great view to the river. The bathroom has a shower over a small bath, wash basin and WC. If your baby is coming too, we provide cot and anything else you may need free of charge.
You can book Hibiscus Cottage from any day to any day, which means cheaper ferry fares, and you can use our Brittany Ferries membership number to get a small discount on crossings. Please note that for short breaks minimum stay is two nights.
Private and self-contained, it has a beautiful courtyard garden crammed with plants (including, of course, a hibiscus): there you can relax, barbecue and eat, sunbathe, or just sit and watch the wildlife.
Nearest Town: St Dolay – 5 kms (approx).
Nearest Airport: Rennes – More than 30 kms (approx).
Nearest Ferry Port: St Malo – More than 30 kms (approx).
We are perfectly placed for exploring south Brittany, Vannes, Rennes, Nantes and St Nazaire, the nature reserves of La Briere and Sene, the Golfe du Morbihan, and the Brittany coast. The famous Penestin beaches are just 30 minutes away by car. From Redon explore the Nantes to Brest canal and the Vilaine north towards Rennes.
We have walked extensively in the area and are happy to make suggestions and prepare itineraries for guests to explore the wonderful countryside, from canals, to coast, to woodland, to prehistoric sites.
La Ruelmain sits on a slight rise where historic water meadows (marais) meet the woodland and farms of the commune of St Dolay, and has stunning views to the wide skies and ever changing colours of the river valley.
La Ruelmain is a good place to stay home, too. The valley is criss-crossed by paths and tracks for walkers and cyclists, and the wildlife, especially birds and butterflies, is stunning. You can buy everything you need to sustain life in nearby St Dolay, which also offers a cracking bar and restaurant.
Something that may not be widely known is the French love for walking – their commitment to the ‘Randonnée’ is such, according to franceonfoot.com, that although the country is three times England’s size, it has more than eight times the mileage of public footpaths. Painted markings on trees and rocks help to make sure you don’t get lost. Themed Holiday Ideas offers English speaking guided tours, taking you to the hot-spots and best routes the region has on offer as well as cover historical sights too.
