The Relais (The Lodge)
Sleeps 2, 1 bedroom. Price From €580 Per Week
Built in the 16th centuryas a hunting lodge for the Princes de Cleves and extended in the 18th century, it was dragged into the 20th century by the local pharmacist some forty years ago. With a good eye for the original details she added modern comfort to the building.
2006 was the first year the Relais opened its doors to guests. We do invite you to spend your weekend and/or holiday at this beautiful spot.
Also, we’re ideally situated for those of you traveling south (or back home) and are looking for a place to stay one or two nights in order to start the second half of their trip well rested. We are looking forward to your visit.
The Relais consists of a manor of approx. 420 m2, an out building of 150m2, servants quarters and a large garden/park (10.000 m2).
During the 2007/2008 season the Relais has four bedrooms available. Three on the ground floor, one on the first floor.
All rooms have large beds, comfortable furniture, and a well equipped en suite bathroom. Colour TV, DVD-player and tea-making facility are available at each room.
Large garden/park (10.000 m2).
The Relais de Chasse is situated in between the historic cities of Nevers en Moulins and can be easily reached via the N7 motorway. Nevers is the capital of the Nievre (Burgundy), Moulins of the Alliers (Auvergne). Both cities offer a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and historic sites and are within a 30 minute reach.
Once this area was part of the duchy Burgundy. Hence the great variety of convents, cathedrals, abby’s and castles.
Also this is an area of pittoresque beauty and ‘pre-war’ peace and quiet. And, lets not forget the wine and food for which this area is famous worldwide.
The Nievre is one of France least densely populated area’s. It is home however to extensive old forests, combined with sloping scenery, rivers and canals.
The valley of the Allier is a paradise for nature-lovers. Also, well worth a visit are its many castles and the elegant city of Vichy. Famous for its spring water and containing a beautiful 18-holes golf course dated 1908.
Approximately 20 km. from the Relais you’ll find the Formula-1 circuit of France (Magny Cours). Apart from the annual grand prix there are many other events to watch and experience. Magny Cours has a 18-holes golf course.
The Romans knew it long before we did. Life is good in what we now call the Nievre (s/w Burgundy). In between Loire and Allier, at the centre of an old village, opposite a 11th century church, you’ll find Le Relais de Chasse (16th/18th century). Four spacious and luxurious bedrooms with well equipped en suite bathrooms are available within its walls. Outside the Relais you can enjoy our 10.000 m2 of garden/park. And beyond that you can experience all the great things the Nievre has to offer.
Something that may not be widely known is the French love for walking – their commitment to the ‘Randonnée’ is such, according to franceonfoot.com, that although the country is three times England’s size, it has more than eight times the mileage of public footpaths. Painted markings on trees and rocks help to make sure you don’t get lost.
