Located half way up Cravengate, just 5 minutes walk from town or 5 minutes down to riverside and woodland walks. The cottage and garden look towards the wooded valley of the River Swale to the south and Richmond castle’s spectacular Norman keep to the east. All the rooms have windows that look towards the castle, and all but one has views of the garden and woods.

Richmond is a fantastic place to live and I am constantly surprised by sites and views that I have never seen before. We are surrounded by interesting architecture and beautiful scenery in this lovely town that stands high above the fast-flowing River Swale.

The town has 3 museums, a Norman castle, a Premonstatentian abbey, gardens, park, Georgian Theatre (it’s brilliant), 3-screen cinema, artisan shops, market and good pubs and restaurants.

Take a walk through the woods to the 2016 CAMRA pub national winner – the community owned George and Dragon at Hudswell.

Our two cottages nestle in this lovely old Swaledale market town.

To learn more about Swaledale and Wensleydale please CLICK HERE.

Richmond is about 7 miles from the A1 at Scotch Corner, where the A1 and A66 meet – take the A6108 to Richmond.

Coming from Ripon, Leyburn and Wensleydale to Richmond take the A6108, or from Reeth and Swaledale the B6270.

The nearest mainline train stations are Darlington and Northallerton. More trains stop at the former and there is a good bus service from Park Lane, just outside Darlington Railway Station at Bank Top.

The Wensleydale Railway runs a train service between Redmire and Leeming Bar

The nearest airport is Durham Tees Valley, east of Darlington.

Bird Watching

The county of North Yorkshire is the largest county in England. It is predominantly rural with much of the land utilised for agriculture. There are large expanses of upland habitats in the Yorkshire Dales supporting important populations of breeding Red and Black Grouse, Ring Ouzel, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Yellow Wagtail, Merlin, Buzzard and Peregrine Falcone to name a few.  Bird spotting is becoming increasingly popular in the Dales.
