Location

This small village has a long and interesting past. Rosedale Priory was founded before 1157, the nunnery with its prioress and 9 nuns remained until dissolution, only a small section of a spiral staircase remains, behind the church. In 1569 there is mention of a corn mill owned by Sir Thomas Williamson …perhaps the foundations of todays Old Mill. The development of iron ore mining from 1859 had a major impact on the village, and is still evident in the surrounding landscape. In the middle of the village stands large building that was once the corn mill, later generated electricity, and was restored in 1984.
