The Old Stable is an attractive flint building with its own access adjacent to Cattishall Farmhouse. It sits next to an outdoor swimming pool within a beautiful farmhouse garden. The setting offers peace and tranquillity in which to relax yet is only three miles from the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds.

We are on the cross roads of the National Cycle Routes 13 and 51 with an easy off road cycle into Bury St Edmunds. We offer secure storage for your own bicycles as well as bicycles to use.

The Old Stable offers two luxury bedrooms and bathrooms with a modern open plan downstairs area opening onto the pool via glass doors. Here you can enjoy your breakfast, relax on the sofa by the wood burner and make your own refreshments in the galley kitchen which is equipped with a fridge. Books, magazines, games and a daily newspaper are available for guest use.

 

Luxury Rooms

 

Our two guest rooms have comfortable beds with high quality mattresses, luxurious towels and bedding and stylish bath/shower rooms.

All rooms have LCD TV, hairdryers, clock radios and tea/coffee making facilities.

Wireless Internet access is available.

 

The Hayloft

This is located on the first floor. It is light and airy with double doors opening onto Juliet balconies. It has a super king sized bed which can be made up as twin beds if preferred and a double sofa bed. Bed arrangements should be requested on booking. The large bathroom has a separate bath and a walk-in mains shower, his n’ hers basins in a double vanity unit and a heated towel rail and shaving point. Complimentary products include our own lavender bath salts for the ultimate relaxing bath experience.

 

The Coach House

This is a large ground floor twin room with floor to ceiling windows and a comfortable arm chair. The beds are made with allergy free luxury bedding and have high quality mattresses.  The shower room is adjacent to the bedroom for your sole use and has a large walk-in mains shower, a single basin and vanity unit. It also includes a heated towel rail, shaving point, complimentary products and of course, fluffy towels.

Prices are per night based on two persons sharing a room and exclude Easter,

Christmas and the New Year.

Single occupancy is available at a reduced rate subject to availability.

The double sofa bed in The Hayloft can accommodate 1/2 people at an extra charge of £25 per person per night.

 

Our Food

 

Breakfast is a relaxed affair with views of the garden in the summer and a welcome fire

in the winter. Wake up to the delicious smell of freshly baked bread and for the perfect start to the day enjoy a sumptuous full English breakfast made from our own and local produce. There is a full choice of homemade muesli and granola, fresh juice and cereal, homemade yoghurt, fruit compote, bread, jams marmalade and our own honey. In addition, there is

a range of cooked options, including vegetarian which are individually prepared to order

and includes eggs from our hens.

A packed breakfast and lunch is also available.

Outside

 

Our Garden is open every year under the National Garden Scheme and extends to two acres enclosed by an old flint wall and mature beech hedge. It is laid mainly to lawn with both formal and informal planting and a large herbaceous border. There is also a wildflower area, small pond, kitchen garden and fruit cages. Our chickens and bees keep us supplied with delicious eggs and honey and the cutting garden with fresh flowers.

Location

 

Cattishall Farmhouse is situated 3 miles north east of Bury St Edmunds off the A14.

We are a distance of 2.7 miles from the town on a dedicated cycle path (route 51)

and footpath. There is ample parking available.

We are 50 minutes by car from Stansted Airport and I hour from the port of Harwich.

London is also within reach and takes approximately 2 hours by car and train.

Bury St Edmunds has a coach terminal and mainline station.

 

Directions

 

Travelling away from Bury St Edmunds: Enter the village of Great Barton on A143 (signposted to Diss). Take the first turning right (Church Road) to the parish church. Bear right at the church and follow the lane which does a sharp left hand turn towards the railway (closed to traffic). Cattishall Farmhouse is the only house on the right before reaching the railway.

Access is via a gravel drive next to a flint wall.

Travelling towards Bury St Edmunds, pass through the village of Great Barton on the A143 with the garage on your right. Just past the Post Office on the left, take a left hand turn signed ‘To The Church’ and follow the directions above.

 

Further Details

 

Advance Reservations: To secure a reservation a deposit of 50% is required.

Payments can be made by online banking or cheques. We are also able to accept payment by all major credit and debit cards.

 

Cancellation Policy: The full amount becomes payable for any cancellation made less than 7 days from the date of arrival. Deposits will not be refunded in the event of a cancellation less than 14 days from the date of arrival unless we are able to re- let the accommodation in which event a refund will be made less an administration charge of £20.

 

Insurance: We recommend that you take out holiday insurance cover especially for longer stays.

 

Arrival and Departure: Check in is usually between 16.00 and 19.00 hours but we can often accommodate earlier arrivals. If you wish to arrive outside these times please call or email at least 24 hours in advance to make alternative arrangements. Luggage can be stored if your room is not ready on arrival.

Check out is 10.30am. If you wish to check out later please enquire the night before and we will do our best to assist.

We regret we cannot accept any pets as our own boisterous Labrador and elderly cats may not be happy.

We have a strict no smoking policy on the premises.

Children over the age of 13 years are welcome.
