Sleeps 12, 6 bedrooms. Please contact the owner for current pricing

Villa Leonie is accessed from the street via a small front garden, up some attractive stone steps to the ornate front door that opens directly into the main living space.

The large light-filled, open-plan lounge/diner is over ten metres by five in size with a centrepiece open fire, original feature stone wall and patio doors that open onto a gorgeous patio/balcony overlooking and leading down to the rear garden. There are two sizeable white leather sofas, as well as benches and easy chairs. There is also the option, if needed, to move another sofa from the master bedroom to provide extra seating.

In the living room is a 42” flat screen LCD TV with a French freeview box, DVD player and a large selection of English language DVDs.

Also on this floor is a spacious, modern kitchen with all appliances, including dishwasher, family-sized fridge/freezer, coffee maker, eye-level oven and hob. The kitchen table and chairs can be moved to adjoin the dining table to make a large dining area that can seat up to fourteen people. There is enough cutlery and crockery for 14 and a good selection of cooking implements.

A door off the living room opens to an office/study/sixth bedroom with computer table and pouffe, which opens out into a single bed.

Accessed from this room are both the utility room, which houses the boiler and automatic washing machine, and the second bathroom, complete with luxury spa shower, wash-hand basin and toilet.

There are doors from the living room that open to stairs leading up to the top floor and down to the garden level.

On the top floor is a large landing area and two simply yet attractively furnished double bedrooms, one with a queen size double bed and the other with twin beds. There is also a child’s cot, if required.

The garden level houses a further three bedrooms, family bathroom and separate toilet. Two of the bedrooms are doubles, and the third is a children’s room containing bunk beds and a smaller junior bed. There is a door from the hallway that opens onto the garden.

The spacious bathroom has a spa shower, a beautiful vintage cast-iron bath, wash-hand basin, two large mirrored storage cupboards and separately lit make-up area. Further storage and wardrobe space is available in the corridor.

The very private walled garden is split into two parts: the front features a fine gazebo covering an extensive patio/dining area with a charcoal barbeque, whilst the rear is mostly lawn and flower/herb beds. There is also a separate seating area outside the master bedroom window.

Accessed from the rear part of the garden is a large games/sun room with full width bi-fold doors opening onto the lawn. This houses a table tennis table, dartboard and table football. At the end of the garden is a sun-sheltered area with two children’s swings. There are also steps from the garden leading up to the raised living area patio.

There is side passage which leads to the garden, ideal for when the kids, (or you) are covered in sand from the beach!

Villa Leonie – 23 Rue Charles Brissaud, 17340 Châtelaillon-Plage, Charente Maritime (View Map)

Geo: 46.075210, -1.091445

Villa Leonie is as much about where it is as what it is.

Just a straight and level 150 metre walk to one of the most beautiful, safe and lively family beaches you will find anywhere – it is literally at the end of the prettiest little street in town.

In one direction is the beach with its restaurants, casino and promenade. In the other direction it is an even shorter walk to the main street with even more restaurants, banks, shopping and funfair.

Châtelaillon-Plage Transport Connections

Châtelaillon has its own train station with frequent (if random) services to La Rochelle (journey time around twelve minutes), Rochefort and Bordeaux. If the train times don’t suit then there are many buses to the main destinations from a stop near the train station.

The nearest airport is La Rochelle, which the locals reckon is about 20 minutes away, however we think it is closer to 25. Thirty-four UK airports offer flights to La Rochelle including Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. There are alternate airports at Poitiers (1hr 30), Nantes – 1hr 20mins and Bordeaux – 2hr.

There are direct trains links to Paris from La Rochelle, ideal for Eurostar travels.

The closest ferry port to the UK is St Malo (about 4hrs), but if you prefer a shorter Ferry (like our seasick family) but longer car journey, options are Caen (5 hrs) or Cherbourg (5hr 30min). All leave from Portsmouth or Poole.

Alternatively, there is the Chunnel to Calais (7hrs ish).
