Modern Villa with Character and Pool in Salernes

The house is a recently built, comfortable Provencal home. Set in just over half an acre (2,200 square metres) of enclosed garden, ‘Limani’ has 4 bedrooms, open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. Although new, the property is filled with character. Beams in the lounge, numerous items of period furniture and various pieces collected worldwide by the owners add to the warm feel of this house. The heated (12m by 4m) saltwater pool is a pleasure to swim in and also has a shallow “plage” area at one end where toddlers can paddle & adults can chill, enjoying the views over the vines and up to the surrounding hills.

‘Limani’ is an ideal house for a family group, 2 families or for up to 4 couples. There are 2 bedrooms at each end of the house, 2 on the ground floor at the eastern end of the house and 2 upstairs at the western end of the house above the kitchen and utility room. This allows a great deal of privacy. A wonderful house to entertain in. With it’s large, well equipped kitchen, open plan living areas, bbq and roomy terraced areas you are able to make the most of the wonderful local produce available in Provence.




Kitchen and dining

Limani has a large open kitchen with a breakfast bar with 4 stools. The large red worktop has a double sink and the windows look onto the large outside table, over the garden and pool to the tree-covered hillside beyond.

The kitchen is very well equipped with a 5 burner gas hob, 2 burner electric hob, 2 electric ovens, a microwave oven, coffee machine, electric kettle, larder fridge and dishwasher.

There is a dining table with 8 chairs close by.

The kitchen is very bright and airy and a pleasure to work in.

There is also an adjacent large utility room a much bigger fridge-freezer.

On the terrace, just outside the kitchen windows, is a large dining table under a cover to give a shaded dining area. The windows make a good serving hatch!

We also now have a table in the shade of the murier-plantaine tree beside the barbecue. The tree has now grown quite big and gives a pleasant, shady extra outside dining table.


Living room

The living room which is equipped with a red wood burning stove has 2 large sofas, an antique rocking chair and other occasional seating.

There is a wall mounted 46-inch screen and an extensive DVD library as well as a music system with a docking station.

Wi-Fi is provided.

Large watercolours of Lefkas in Greece hang on one wall and again this another bright and airy space.

Two French windows lead onto the terrace and another windo in the oppisite wall looks onto the garden’s olive trees and the hillside beyond.

There is a coffee table by the settees with boardgames, jigsaws and other games inside.



There are 2 double bedrooms downstairs both with plenty of wardrobe space.

One looks over the garden and olive trees and has an en suite with a bath and shower.

The other downstairs bedroom, with French windows, looks out over the garden and pool to the vineyard and hillside beyond. This bedroom also has an en suite bathroom, this time with a multi-function, hydro-massage shower with a seat.

Upstairs there is a double bedroom with 2 windows with superb views, again there is plenty of wardrobe space available.

Also upstairs there is another bedroom with 2 single beds and ample wardrobe space. Again this bedroom has 2 windows also with lovely views.



In addition to the 2 en suite downstairs bathrooms there is also a separate downstairs toilet with wc and wash-hand basin.

The shower room has an extra large shower cabinet, ideal for mother and child, and a wash-hand basin.



The house has electric wall mounted heaters and the bathrooms have electric towel rails.

There is a wood burning stove in the living room.

We feel the individual, free-standing, oscillating fans which are in each bedroom are much more likely to be appreciated during the summer months than heaters.



As mentioned there is a large wall mounted flat-screen display and a large number of DVDs in the living room.

The bedroom with the French windows has a Bose Wave cd/radio unit.

There are a number of pool toys, balls and bats, boule sets and other outside toys and games.

Board games, jigsaws and cards in the living room.




The property in entered through electric security gates. The driveway is lined with lavender.

The garden was a blank space when we moved into the house and we have planted almond trees, olive trees, cypress trees, a fig tree, a murier-plantaine and parasol pines…oh, nearly forgot we have a baby oak tree which at some time in the future is meant to produce truffles around it’s roots.

We collect the olives and almonds; we now produce a little olive oil.

There is a gravel garden with a large variety of plants off the terrace, roses do well in this soil and there is also a bush producing pomegranate (very bitter ones so far).

There are tubs planted with herbs to use near the barbecue.

In winter we have a lot of birds in the garden, less so in summer.

There are a number of paths close to the house and the Mairie has produced a guide with marked walking routes. We often walk up to the chapel on the hilltop behind the house and then back down in a circular walk. Getting up there can be a bit tough but the view is wonderful.

There is a pergola to give a shaded area by the pool.

There is plenty of parking space on the gravel for a number of cars, safely inside the automatic security gates.




Salernes is close by and as you are not close to the coast and its chaotic traffic it is easy to visit the other interesting villages and sites in the surrounding area. The area is a delight for those interested in outdoor activities. There are wonderful walks and cycle routes available as well as horse riding, canoeing, white water rafting, climbing and even bungee-jumping!

We often make a trip to Aups on a Saturday morning to visit the market and then after a scenic drive to Tour Tour enjoy a drink outside one of the bars in the village square.

We are lucky to have a number of good places to enjoy a meal out at in the area.

In Salernes itself the Cafe de Vignes on the square is good as is Pepe Thomas, on the square as well. We have also enjoyed Food’Amour and Le Bistro Gourmand in Salernes.

There is an excellent small restaurant in Entrecasteaux, Chez Ellie, with some good Asian dishes on the menu.

Further afield Le Grande Chene at Sillanes Le Cascade is always good, you can work up an appetite with a walk to see the waterfall before visiting the restaurant.

For a treat La Table de Fanette, close to Fox-Amphoux, is really good as is Brunos at Lorgues.

A trip out to the lavender fields on the Plateau de Lavensole is an interesting outing as is a drive to the Gorge du Verdon. In that area you can try rafting, kayaking or even bungee jumping should you feel the need!

If you can deal with the traffic a trip to Saint Tropez is worthwhile and Aix en Provence is a lovely place to visit with some interesting sights and museums.

The pool has a powered rolling cover for insulation and adding security for children.

The garden is securely fenced making it safer for small children and dogs.

Utility Room: Large (some would say huge) utility room with washing machine, overhead drying racks, large American-style fridge-freezer, double sinks, storage cupboards, ironing board and iron. Direct access to barbecue area.

Cleaning/towels/linen/maid service: Bathroom towels, tea towels and linen are provided.

As soon as you come through the front door into the hall you can sense the homely feel of the house and will notice the nautical background of the owners.

“Limani” is tastefully decorated and features items sourced from the owner’s global voyages.

The house will be cleaned before your arrival, please leave it clean at the end of your holiday.




Something that may not be widely known is the French love for walking – their commitment to the ‘Randonnée’ is such, according to franceonfoot.com, that although the country is three times England’s size, it has more than eight times the mileage of public footpaths. Painted markings on trees and rocks help to make sure you don’t get lost.
